It describes the process of creating fabric from a length of cord, yarn, or thread with a specific type of a hook known as the crochet hook.

Crochet yarn is a special kind of yarn which is used specifically for the purpose of crocheting. Crochet yarns are by nature very soft. Although different kinds of yarn are used by different people for crocheting, a very popular and widely appreciated variety used for crocheting is Cebelia, a 100% cotton crochet yarn. Cebelia is a superior 100% cotton, three-cord, tightly twisted thread. It is designed to be used wherever sized cotton is recommended. Generally, it is wound on a small core resulting in a compact ball with high yardage. This kind of yarn is mercerized twice, giving it strength as well as shine. Cebelia yarn is designed for making tablecloths, napkins, table runners, cushion covers, curtains and many other items.

Cebelia yarn is popular all over the world with crochet lovers for its texture, sheen and high quality. It is also quite economical for those who are involved with making crocheted things regularly. A ball of cebelia yarn of about 282 yards is available for as little as $4 to $6. The price varies with the color. The white colored yarn is generally more expensive than the colored yarn. Cebelia yarn is widely available in art and craft shops as well as many departmental stores. In many shops, it is available in different sizes, ranging from 50g balls to 250g balls, in three different thicknesses and in a range of about twenty six colors.

Other popular brands of crochet yarn include Baroque, Senso, Cordonnet, Manuel and Flora threads, among others. These are also quite popular and have relatively similar prices. [http://www.i-Yarn.com]Yarn provides detailed information on Yarn, Knitting Yarn, Discount Yarn, Yarn Shops and more. In addition to hooks and yarn, there are also several other tools that you should consider getting before you start a crochet project. Having everything in place at the beginning will make you feel much more prepared.

The first thing to consider is the type of hooks or hooks you'll be using. Crochet hooks are made from a variety of materials, including: steel, aluminum, bone or plastic. The main criteria for working with a hook is one that is comfortable and feels good in your hand. The weight of the hook, hook material, and finger size and length will influence your decision. There is no specific requirements for choosing a hook, but depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet will be a consideration. Of course, if you are following a pattern, then the gauge requirements, our how many stitches you need to make an inch, is something you will also need to be aware of.

Purchasing an Afghan hook can be a good investment. Afghan hooks are used for specialized crochet projects, and they allow you to hold many stitches on your hook. The average crochet hook is six inches, but Afghan hooks come in 9, 14, and 20 inch lengths. They also have knobs on them to keep the stitches form falling off. Using an Afghan hook will make your crocheting even easier.

Yarns are now made in many different varieties for crocheting use. As a beginner, the easier yarn to use is one that has a medium or tight twist and a smooth surface. Crochet yarn is usually packaged as balls, not skeins, and the length of each yarn will vary depending on the thickness. You may want to consider an all natural blend, or if you are looking at synthetic yarns, get a blend of the two, which will have the benefits of both synthetic and natural.

In addition to yarn and hooks, there are other tools that will make crocheting easier. Markers are split loops or rings of colorful plastic that help mark your work. They help indicated the beginning of a row and help count the stitches. Tapestry needles are used in embroidery, but for crochet, they can be used to weave yarn ends and sew crochet pieces together.

There are even more tools that you can use once you get started in crochet, but having the above on hand will make your crocheting experience even easier. Its always better to assemble the tools you need ahead of time so you won't be interrupted in the middle of a project. Soon, you'll be crocheting one-of-a-kind crafts.

Amy Wells loves to crochet. There are many areas of crocheting to learn and even those who are experienced in crocheting may not have knowledge in certain aspects. Crochet magazines are excellent sources of patterns, tips, ideas and general providers of information regarding the topic. Many people purchase crochet magazines because they are looking for a certain type of pattern or else because they need tips on how to perfect their skill. As beginners progress, they may rely on crochet magazines to further them along with more complicated designs and works. From scarves to dresses, there is a crochet magazine to suit any need.

Some crochet magazines are for complete beginners, while others contain information on more complicated areas of crocheting. There are a number of crochet magazines for the fashion conscious; they provide patterns and ideas on how to recreate the latest trends and fashions with simply homemade crocheting methods. Many crochet magazines are great resources from where to purchase good patterns and crocheting equipment. Due to the fact that many beginners may not have access to a local supplier, this can be very helpful.

There are a huge variety of crochet magazines available for purchase in stores as well as borrowing from a library. There are even online versions of crochet magazines so both novices and experts in crocheting are widely catered for. The main types of crochet magazines are basically sources of patterns for any level of proficiency. These are popular as they give a diverse selection of designs that are usually cheaper and more fashionable than buying a pattern book. Some of these magazines solely supply patterns for clothes while others combine a variety of patterns concerning doilies, cloths, baby bonnets and even bootees.

There are also a large number of these magazines that focus on the instruction of crocheting. They mainly concentrate on the different styles of crocheting and how to create certain shapes, for example. They usually go through the entire process step by step and are a great way to practice. Some only cover the very basics, offering limited designs and methods. Others cater for more complicated designs and patterns as well as additions using knitting and even embroidery. Every aspect of crocheting is covered by a number of craft magazines and anyone who is interested in crocheting should find an almost unlimited supply of help and information.

Terry Roberts is a professional translator and linguist, with a wide range of interests. Because of its calming, rhythmic movements, many studies have shown positive results for people suffering from chronic depression, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and schizophrenia. Crocheting is also for common ordinary people who simply enjoy the feeling of accomplishing something with their after-work, idle time. Crocheting relieves stress and muscle tensions after a hard day at the office as crocheting easily takes your mind off from work and draws you deeper into a solitary hobby where you can collect your thoughts as you let your fingers and the crochet hook do their work.

Yarn colors also have positive effects on the eyes too. Colors in soft, fuzzy materials provide a diversion to the cold, hard and glaring screens of your office computers that you have been staring at for the whole day.

Aside from the psychological and emotional benefits of crocheting, it also provides material benefits. I have known three housewives who have gone into crocheting, first as a hobby, and then into business, making sweatshirts, shawls and pillowcases in different designs and different colors. Of course, the income may not be as high as when you sell hotdogs during baseball season but it does add a considerable amount of cash into the household income, not to mention the personal satisfaction of having been able to consign and sell your own handiwork in small, local shops. Other items that can be made by crocheting are cellular phone cases, fashion bag parts, tablecloth, and coasters.

Crocheting can also bond people. It provides a healthy venue for women and even young girls to come together to share thoughts and exchange views while exchanging crocheting patterns. It is both a social as well as a solitary hobby. It’s best to do this at the start of a row. This way, it will be easier to hide the tail of the yarn and keep your work looking tidy. Take the new yarn and wrap it around the hook. Draw up a loop and continue crocheting. Leave a six inch tail and tie a loose knot to keep it in place. When you’ve completed your item untie the knot and weave in the ends. This method can also be used when you have to change yarn in the middle of a row.

Loose ends
If you are working to a deadline, don't forget to account for time to sew in the ends. It can sometimes take a long time to finish a piece. When you sew in your ends, try to make it as invisible as you can. Take your time. Make sure that whatever method you use it is secure. If you are afraid your ends won't stay put, then wash the item. Any ends sticking up can usually be clipped if you have left a long end and sewn much of it in. Here are some tips on how to deal with your loose ends.

v Use long ends of six inches or longer and sew them in as much of them as possible. Little pieces may stick out after washing and if you clip the pieces having only left a small strand, soon there will be little left and it may come apart.

v Don't sew over two strands at once, because it gives a bulky look. If you want to sew over both ends, then you could sew over one of the strands and then bring the other one up to the next row or round, and sew over it there.

v Try to sew ends in on the wrong side of the work.

v Don't pull too tightly as you weave or your work may pucker.

A yarn needle works best to weave in loose ends. For doilies, a yarn needle will be too big and a sewing needle will damage your work. You will need to use the crochet hook. Weaving in yarn ends is necessary for neatness and to prolong wear. With the wrong side facing you, thread your needle with the end of the yarn. Carefully weave the needle along the back of the stitches about two to three inches on a diagonal, gently pulling the yarn end. Weave the other yarn end in the opposite direction. When finished, gently stretch the fabric in all directions so the fabric doesn’t pull. Trim any excess yarn ends.

Crochet Problems Eliminated! "Finally! Gauge varies from crocheter to crocheter, even when they are using exactly the same yarn and hook. To get beyond this problem a swatch, or small sample piece is made in the stitch pattern using the size of yarn and hook. A swatch will help you determine if you meet the patterns intended gauge. For the best results, make a crocheted swatch of at least 6 inches square and then measure the stitches in the center of the swatch to determine gauge.

Often a crochet pattern doesn’t suggest a gauge swatch. It may say instead 4 stitches and 4 rows = 1 inch. To make a swatch make about six inches of chain. Lay the piece flat on a table. Count how many stitches there are in one inch. This is your stitch gauge. Next, count the number of rows in one inch. This is your row gauge. Row gauge becomes important, when complicated stitch patterns repeat after a number of rows. If the shaping must take place at a certain row and your row gauge is different from the pattern gauge, shaping won’t be done at the proper time and your garment may not fit properly. Usually, if your stitch gauge matches, the row gauge will be close enough for most purposes.

If your gauge is larger than the one described in the pattern, use a smaller hook try another swatch. If your swatch is smaller, then you'll need to increase your hook. As hooks vary between manufacturers, you may find that switching hook brand can help you to reach the right gauge.

v A swatch shoul be at least two inches square.

v Always make a square swatch – it’s easier to make an accurate count.

v Try not to force your tension, but crochet just like you always do.

v If you naturally crochet tightly, use a size larger hhok than recommended.

v If you naturally crochet loosely, use a size smaller hook than recommended.

v If your foundation chain is too tight or too loose begin the pattern with another size hook.

v Always measure the swatch on a hard, flat surface.

Left handed crochet

Working crochet left handed is just as easy as working it right handed. The methods for forming the stitches and holding the hook and yarn remain the same, you simply use your left instead of right hand. Patterns and instructions are generally written for right handed people. Therefore, remember to substitute left for right and vice versa. This is the only adjustment you will need to make. The esiest way to learn crochet if you’re left handed is to sit opposite another crocheter and mirror their movements.

If you’re using a book for instruction, you can take the illustrations to a copiers and ask thenm to make transfer image copies. This flips the images over. If looking at diagrams on the internet, keep a mirror next to your monitor. Position it so that you can view your monitor through it. The mirror will flip the images to make them left hand interpreted. Alterabtively, use the right click function on your mouse over the image,
Any image editing programme, like Windows Paint, will allow you to reverse diagrams before printing out by doing a “horizontal flip”. Usually though, it can be easier to change the settings on your printer so that it reverse or mirror image prints.
Sometimes, you may have to take a few minutes to prepare if you’re a left hander, but the amount of effort is minimal and will save you hours that could be lost trying to figure out how to reverse instructions.

Crochet Problems Eliminated! "Finally!
